Doctor of Medicine (Summa Cum Laude / Gold Degree) graduated from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana (1989). Subsequently he studied specialization in general surgery (Summa Cum Laude / 100 points) and subspecialty in thoracic surgery at the "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Surgical Hospital in Havana, Cuba.
Dr. Strachan has had additional training in the Dominican Republic, Colombia and the United States in the area of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
Since 2010 Dr. Strachan has been developing a technical variant to the sleeve gastrectomy in order to improve the results of this procedure. He currently has more than 500 cases with his innovative technique. Dr. Strachan has been invited to important international events to present his technique such as the XIII World Congress of Laparoscopic Surgery 2012, SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopy Surgeons) 2012 and 2013, the IV World Consensus of Gastric Sleeve 2012, the V Latin American IFSO Congress of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery 2013, at the XVIII World Congress of the International Federation for Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Surgery (IFSO 2013) in Istanbul, the XX Congress of the Latin American Federation of Surgery (FELAC 2013) and ALACE, Panama 2014.),
His continued education has allowed him to achieve a high level of updating in the field of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery with international recognition. He has also introduced and developed highly complex minimally invasive thoracic surgery in the country.
In the present Dr. Strachan has his practice of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in the
International Center for Advanced Plastic Surgery (CIPLA), in the Cuban Dominican Medical Center and in the Independencia Clinic.
