Nose Surgery in Phuket

Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure to change or improve the function of the nose. It can be performed for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. For cosmetic surgery, it is done to enhance a person’s appearance by improving their nose shape, while for reconstructive surgery, it is done to restore the form and functions of the nose, such as to relieve breathing problems and correct a birth defect. Unless the surgery is for reconstructive purposes, nose surgery should not be performed on teens until their bones are fully developed, normally at the age of 15 to 16 for girls, and a year or so later for boys.

During the surgery, you are given local anesthesia or general anesthesia. The surgery begins by creating incisions inside the nose or at the base of the nose between the nostrils. Then, your surgeon reshapes and readjusts the inner bone and cartilage underneath the skin to make a more pleasing appearance. If you only need small changes, your surgeon usually takes cartilage from deeper inside your nose or your ear. If you need larger changes, cartilage from your rib, a bone from other parts of your body, or implants is used. The last step is placing the nose’s skin and tissue back, as well as closing the incisions with stitches.

Normally, you can go back to your hotel on the same day. However, some people will need to stay in the hospital for one night. Plan to stay in the Phuket for at least 10 to 14 days for initial recovery, checkups, and stitches removal. In general, the recovery period is around 2 to 3 weeks until you can resume your normal activity, but you should be able to go back to work within a week. The success rate is high, about 80% to 90%. Nevertheless, you still need to be aware of its risks and complications, such as infection and bleeding.
