Jaw Shaping in Malaysia

Also known as Mandibular Angle Reduction, V Line Surgery or Jaw Line Surgery, this type of treatment is performed with the purpose of narrowing the lower part of the face, with particular emphasis on the mandible (lower jaw) and the muscular attachments. It can make an overly long jaw shorter and change a square face to an oval one. Particularly sought after in Asia, it is typically ideal for women who have an overly-square jawline and desire a more feminine appearance to the jaw and the chin. In the case of V Line Surgery, although it can be performed on both men and women, it may not work in the case of feminizing a male’s face because a male’s face is normally taller and longer, and a V Line Surgery would only make a face look more elongated.

Surgery is performed under general anesthetic through tracheal intubation and leaves minimal scarring. Oscillating saws are used to reshape the jaw. The surgery can be performed inside the mouth (intraoral approach), but sometimes small incisions may be required outside of the mouth. An incision is made between the gum and the cheek next to the jaw. Then, the jawline is carved out into the desired shape. A portion of the masseter muscle is shaved off, and the outer portion of the bone is chipped off. However, if the patient requires full-thickness bone removal, the best approach is by an incision hidden around the ear.

After the surgery, the patient will need to stay in the hospital for a day or two. It is recommended to stay in the Malaysia for at least 10 to 14 days after being discharged. The stitches are removed two weeks after the surgery. Patients can go back to their regular routines after 7 to 10 days. During the recovery period, they need to follow the surgeon’s aftercare recommendation. This surgery has a high success rate, but it is vital to be aware of possible complications, such as infection and sensory deficit.
